Nice, I just came looking to find what exactly is used to mod this game.I come from X3 Universe modding community.With that said. I am toying around with a theory to re make something did for X3 which was making gate access a software module and increase the afterburner and cruise speeds respectively making it so the Ai if not equipped with jump technology must cruise to other systems if that is possible. The point of this is so empty space becomes quite lively with fleets and escorted freighters found making new routes to systems.I understand simply removing gates is not enough I will have to make adjustments to the Ai logic routines and the add more trade route options. I was under the impression the game data was moddable to make entierly new content that both clients would need to be running for MP to function.There are already enough people I see on the forums over at starwraith modding visuals for backdrops and huds. I am just not sure if the DEV exlplicitly doesnt want game play changing mods or if that is just your opinion on modding the game.Personally all games of this genre benfiit from a modding community. X3 has a huge community and just about anything the players wanted the community made as scripts which could be loaded in the ships console and run and you could write custom scripts within the game, just doing this would mark your game as cheat save and you wouldn't be able too play submit any stats or anything like that. I have to disagree, I am willing to bet some players would like the option to play the game without gates and to have the empty space have fleets moving between sectors via cruise.In a modders mind a cheat is a mod or file created to progress without effort a mod is change to code or imporvements to gameplay that add something new. Freelancer was not released with any modding tools but now if you look on moddb there are a ton of fan content ranging from simple gfx mods to complete expansions.Another example is Doom again it has a map editor but the SDK or dev kits were not released now the origonal creators of doom absolutely love the fans that keep the game alive with mods.
